We live in an environment where our minds are constantly stimulated which can leave us feeling overwhelmed and on edge. Sometimes this can be beneficial – pushing us to strive toward goals and achieve success. But, if we don’t possess the skills to be present and build mental resilience, we can often find ourselves in an endless rat race of chasing happiness and fulfilment, whilst we’re left feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious and burned out. But what if there were a different way? What if there were simple skills that you could learn that would enable you to be a highly effective human being and still find peace and happiness? Mindfulness skills give you back your freedom, teaching you how to shift gears mentally and physiologically – they give you your life back. This is the power of MBSR!

MEET MARIA
"If I had to choose a couple of breakthroughs or big learnings from the course, I would say, the first one is around just appreciating the day-to-day in a very different way, from what I used to do. Without changing massively what I do in the day, but how I do it, I've seen that I can feel completely different. Just enjoying day-to-day activities, such as going on a walk, just brushing my teeth, or taking a shower can help me to boost my mind, and then deal with any situations that arise in a very different way. And I would say the second-biggest learning is feeling equipped with tools and different exercises that have helped me to deal with stressful moments or situations that are outside my control in a much better way."
More MBSR Testimonials
SAM:
It was completely amazing. Now I have an awareness of when I’m not being mindful about something, and know all the different tools so I can pick the right ones at the right time.
SASKIA:
I am now able to deal with things that are going on around me properly, not just shovelling it in, and can use the proper tools to do so. It has helped in every environment and I am more productive with my thoughts.
MILLA:
I loved every single session of my Mindfulness course with LUME. Each session flew by and I was in complete awe of the coach throughout when it came to her knowledge and confidence. She is a pure example of someone who practises what she preaches and really uses her mindfulness as a daily tool and that I found incredibly motivating
What does the science say?
MBSR is the most widely researched and evidence-based mindfulness training programme. Developed by Professor Jon Kabat-Zinn in the late 1970s, it has become the focus of many research projects into stress, anxiety, depression and mental resilience. Now it stands as one of the most widely taught skills-based practices and is often prescribed in a clinical setting. The course explores the connection between the mind and body, helping you to cultivate new skills to manage life’s inevitable ups and downs, and teaches you how to find peace and truly thrive.
What’s the evidence?
Participation in MBSR is associated with changes in gray matter concentration in brain regions involved in learning and memory processes, emotion regulation, self-referential processing, and perspective taking.
Mindfulness-based therapy is a promising intervention for treating anxiety and mood problems in clinical populations.
What’s included?
The MBSR course takes meditation apps one step further, empowering you to connect to calm without the use of an app or wifi connection. You’ll gain a mental resilience toolkit and learn how to harness the benefits of mindfulness wherever life takes you.

Meet your New Mindfulness Coach
Your MBSR coach will be Jessica - founder of LUME. After pursuing a career in marketing and sales, Jessica discovered the transformational effects of mindfulness in her own life. Since retraining as a mindfulness practitioner with some of the UK’s top teachers, Jessica has worked with businesses like Amazon and The Bank of England to bring mindfulness to their staff and workplace. Now, she wants to share her knowledge with others - giving everyone with a busy mind the power to quieten the noise and find peace whenever they need to.
LUME: doing business mindfully!
Your choice to invest in yourself is also an investment in the mental well-being of future generations. LUME was set up as a social enterprise in response to the lack of public funding available to teach mindfulness skills to children in schools. LUME’s courses and corporate work enable us to provide much-needed mindfulness training to children whilst they’re at school. So thank you - you’re helping us to fulfil our mission to democratise access to MBSR and other skills-based mental resilience training.

Answering your questions
The old saying goes – “If you give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. If you teach a man to fish, you feed him for a lifetime”. This is how the MBSR course compares to online meditations or apps. Whilst they’re a great way to start your journey with meditation, they do not empower you with the skills to harness the practice solo. This is what MBSR does, you’ll be left with the skills to meditate & access calm whenever & wherever you need to.
Whilst MBSR isn’t a replacement for therapy or clinical mental health interventions, it does cover many of the tools often seen in CBT and other forms of therapy. It is a scientifically-backed and evidence-based programme for those looking to improve their mental well-being. For the same price as 5-7 therapy sessions, this 8-week course will equip you with life-long skills to boost your mental and physiological well-being. (And of course MBSR can be done alongside therapy and will only complement the tools you’re acquiring there.)
No, MBSR is not for everyone. Mindfulness meditation is not recommended if you have experienced significant mental health episodes such as psychosis or personality disorder. There are other meditative techniques that are much more effective for individuals dealing with these circumstances. We also don’t recommend embarking on the MBSR course if you have recently been through a significant trauma or major life change. During the course, we explore and bring attention to what causes us stress and doing this too soon after a traumatic event can exacerbate one’s sense of overwhelm and distress. Just as one shouldn’t set sail during a storm, we recommend waiting for the storm to pass before delving into these issues. Before starting the course, everyone needs to have a discovery call with me (Jess) to ensure that this is the best time for you to be starting the course.
MBSR has been studied in the context of many health issues and more general feelings of stress, making it an evidence-based form of mindfulness practice that can be prescribed to manage many different issues. Throughout the course, we cover the neuroscience supporting mindfulness and stress physiology, giving you a deeper understanding of how and why the practices work.
Just as when we learn any new skill, time and effort must be invested if you want to reap the rewards, and the MBSR course is no different. The course entails 2 hours of live teaching time per week and a half-day retreat which is held at the weekend to fit around your busy work schedule. You’ll also have to commit to spending up to 30 minutes per day doing your mindfulness practice. We understand that this may seem like a lot with an already busy life, however, the hybrid model of on-demand and live lessons gives you more flexibility to find space around your lifestyle. Also, with all of this being online it is truly accessible wherever or whenever suits you best.
All of the coaches have experience in integrating these practices into our everyday lives. We get that it seems like another thing to add to the list but actually, it can run alongside your current activities – on your commute, driving or at work. What’s more, it also creates more time and ease in your daily life – giving you space to be creative, make decisions and simply think with more clarity.
Meeting new people and embarking on a new skill can be scary. That’s why the course format and supportive community of experts are there to guide you throughout. Almost every individual that joins the course comes alone, and often from many different corners of the planet. And all of you are there for the same reason – to learn. Although we all have our own individual issues and differences that we’re dealing with, when we come together and share as a group, we also learn that we have many commonalities. Learning from other participants’ challenges and being inspired by their growth and development is a key part of the MBSR process. Your MBSR experts are there to support you through this process, explore the techniques and enrich your knowledge.
Your primary teacher will be Jessica – founder of LUME. After pursuing a career in marketing and sales, Jessica discovered the transformational effects of mindfulness in her own life. Since retraining as a mindfulness practitioner, Jessica has worked with businesses like Amazon and The Bank of England to bring mindfulness to their staff and workplace. Now, she wants to share her knowledge with others- giving everyone with a busy mind the power to quiet the noise when they need to.
Whilst we strongly advise you to try and attend all of the sessions in order to get the most out of the course, we understand that sometimes life gets in the way and scheduling conflicts are unavoidable. In order to complete the course and receive your MBSR certificate – essential if you would lke to go on to do further mindfulness training or attend a residential mindfulness retreat – you must attend 6 out of the 8 sessions. All sessions are recorded on Zoom and will be sent to you if you are unable to attend a session.
